My journey in photography began in 1978. There was an article in Smithsonian magazine about John Dykstra's work on Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica (wonder of the internet, you can find the article HERE ). The article had enough how to's for me to build my own spaceships and start photographing them with my dad's Yashica. I learned double exposure before portraiture. Years later I switched to Nikon gear and accumulated some great lenses. My favorite films to shoot were Techpan and Infrared (Kodak). Alas, those are gone which prompted me to finally make the switch to digital. I currently have two D610s, one converted to IR.

I have it on my bucket list to have a DSLR converted to IR. I have a first Gen Rebel I could do it with, but it's only 6MP. I think I'd like something with a little better sensor. Might try to buy a used Canon 40D or 50D to have converted one of these days. I love the look of IR pictures! Please do post some in the Gallery here!

I just looked and there are a couple Canons on Ebay already converted. This one is a 7D for $700. That is the same IR filter I have. The conversion will cost about $300 including shipping there, so take that price off any camera that's already been converted. The one important thing not mentioned in that sale is how the camera was calibrated once the filter was installed. I'll ask him.

7D is a darned nice Camera too! (I had one before I upgraded to the 7D II) (I'm not ready to jump just yet as I just bought a second camera body, the Canon 6D Full Frame. But one of these days!

Got a message back.
"The camera was calibrated for the Canon 17-40 f/4L lens when it was converted. It focuses well with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens. Let me know if you have any other questions."
So what that means is most lenses won't focus accurately unless you use live view to focus.
